TLC
Leads to Success! My time at TLC has been very beneficial. The goal was for me to make it to Northern College by September. I’m now at the level needed to start my upgrading at Northern College. The first time I met with Sheila, I was very impressed with the atmosphere at TLC. When we did my assessment, she didn’t put any pressure on me while I was doing my testing. Sheila told me to answer the best I could, it would just let her know what level I was at. Then she introduced me to Alison the adult literacy instructor. She gave me a tour of their building. My first day in class I was so overwhelmed with it all. I hadn’t been in a classroom for over thirty years, I wasn’t sure that I had made the right decision going back to school. Alison explained that I needed to start here before I could go to Northern College. My math was difficult at times but it was well worth it to refresh my skills. My reading and writing have really improved. Alison always takes time to explain any questions you have. She is terrific with the students, never talks down to you. Alison always makes you look at what you have done not what you haven’t done. Alison takes her time correcting our work and will give extra practice sheets when needed. She loves her job! She has no problems explaining things in order for us to understand. I have improved my reading, writing and math during the time that I have been here. The volunteers are very helpful and friendly. I am very impressed with TLC’s way of teaching. They look at each person’s needs and abilities for what the student needs to improve their level. I would recommend TLC if you need upgrading done. Great job everyone! Yours truly; L.L. My time at the T.L.C. has been very beneficial. I have learned new skills and rediscovered things I never quite understood in high school. The teachers I had were exceptional and really made my experience a pleasant one. I found that I was given a lot of one on one tutoring. The materials they used to work with me were really good, easy to understand, and easy to read. I found the setting at the T.L.C. very comfortable and friendly. I must say my experience was a good one and I will not forget that. It was really great to have the opportunity to learn different things. It really opened new doors for me. The T.L.C. gave me the opportunity to complete different curriculum, which were very informative and gave me an idea of what types of jobs and courses are available, out there. The T.L.C. has volunteers, who come in during the week to help those who have difficulties in learning, they made it comfortable for us to learn and work with them. They also have an after school program where children come in and receive one on one help since the school systems have made cut backs. I saw that the children were given the same learning opportunities that I was given. I feel many children will benefit from the after school program .In closing, I would really like to thank my teacher for not getting upset with me when I got frustrated with her for editing my work I’m sure we both learned something new about ourselves that day. I believe that through each person we meet there is always something new to learn, and that as long as we are willing to keep an open mind, we will grow stronger from each other’s life experiences. D.B. My experience at the Timmins Learning Center was great. I learned a lot of things in a short amount of time. I worked on upgrading my reading, writing, and math skills. At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to come to TLC but I figured if I wanted to go to college I needed to improve my skills. The staff was very welcoming and allowed me to be myself. I really.enjoyed my time here; it was a great learning experience. S.L. What the Timmins Learning Centre has done for me… The TLC has helped me with my writing, reading and math. I never thought I could read my kids a book without skipping words. I can read to them and enjoy it at the same time. My writing is getting a lot better from when I first came here. I can write words that I never thought I could. My math is great and I love doing it now. I never knew you needed so much math to get through life. Thank you so much TLC, you have helped me a lot with everything. I enjoy being here and learning everything I need to do, to go to college and to work.
