THE TIMMINS LEARNING CENTRE PRESENTS THE A+ BOOK CLUB!

The Timmins Learning Centre is pleased to announce that we have received funding from Green Shield Canada to deliver a new program that will assist children in senior kindergarten to grade 3 who are struggling with reading. The objectives of our A+ Book Club are to promote a joy of reading, increase word recognition, and improve reading fluency and comprehension.

Children will attend once weekly for eight weeks. Each one hour session will consist of a story time, shared reading and comprehension activities. Children in SK and Grade 1 will be placed in one group, and children in Grades 2 and 3 will be placed in a second group. There will be no more than 10 children per group which will allow for more time dedicated to each child. It is our hope that by limiting the size of these groups the children will feel more comfortable reading and sharing stories.

Parents will also receive three free information sessions on the Importance of Reading with Your Child, Winning the Homework Battle, and Communicating with your Child's School.

All of the Children and Parents participating in the A+ Book Club will be required to complete assessments and surveys which will be used to compare and track progress.

If you are interested in participating, please contact the Timmins Learning Centre at 705-268-8900.
